Barbara has earned four varsity letters in both track and cross country. She holds the school record in the 3200 meter run and gained All-City honors in that event in 1986 and 1987, as well as in the 1600 meter run in 1985, when she also was a member of the United States Maccabaih junior track and field team.

She won the 3200 race in the Central Division and finished eighth in the state meet in 1986. She was third in the division last year. She won the Arizona Junior Olympics 1500 meter title in 1987.

Barbara was co-captain of the track team one year and captain of the cross country team two years. She earned All-City cross country honors in 1985 and 1987, was All-Division in 1985, 1986, and 1987, All-State in 1985 and gained Arizona All-academic honors in 1987.

She was 6th in her class of 394 with a 4.21 grade point average and plans to attend Occidental College in California next year, where she hopes to compete in cross country and track at the NCAA Division III level.

An active member of the National Honor Society, Barbara also has been involved in the A Cappella Choir, French and Science clubs. She has been active in choir and youth group activities at Temple Emanuel Church, has studied classical piano for nine years and collects miniature books.

Barbara is the daughter of Joseph & Sandra Palais.
